Hey, pretty people!

As innovative as they may seem, water-activated eyeliners are one of the most ancient beauty trends in the book.

There are traces of this practices ever since makeup became a thing centuries ago, with the most recent version being a coal brick in the 1920s. Interestingly enough, the same technique was applied for mascara.

Suva Beauty casually came on to my Beauty Bay dash a while back, and both a close friend of mine and I felt incredibly intrigued by it.

Their eyeliners seemed incredibly bright and fun, and the price was overall inviting as well – especially compared to the quantity provided by the product.

This eyeliner cake offers two different colors, black and white; they are separated in the middle by a fine line, and can potentially spice up every single one of your looks. If you haven’t guessed from the intro, they are water activated as well!

So, what did I think about Suva Beauty Hydra Liner Mix Cake? Is it my new favorite eyeliner? Was it a miss?

Let’s find out!

PACKAGING

This eyeliner comes in a simple cardboard packaging, but there is nothing too simple about this packaging!

The cardboard packaging is, of course, black and white themed, with beautiful doodles all around it. All of the designs are embossed, which makes for a nice touch.

I like the fact that the writings Suva Beauty Hydra Liner are printed on the front face, and they do not get lost into the black and white theme. Another detail I enjoyed is the little tutorial on the bottom of the cardboard.

The last touch of the cardboard packaging that I considered to be the icing on the cake is the little writing ‘We Make Rainbows Jealous’ right on the front.

THE ACTUAL EYELINER

Taking out the actual product, we can see a much different type of packaging; the plastick packaging is a lot simpler, which is nice, and gives the formula front stage.

What immediately grabbed my attention was the weight of the product. You do pay a bit more, but you also get quite more formula than your regular eyeliner would give you! This product feels nice to hold, and high quality in general.

The small clear pot only has the name of the brand and the product, and a small sticker on the back with a few general informations about the eyeliner.

OVERALL

Overall, I find this packaging to be fairly practical to both use and potentially carry around, with the cap making the perfect water holder.

Also, the simple plastic packaging doesn’t take any attention away from the actual formulation.

FORMULATION AND PERFORMANCE

Like we said before, this water-activated formula isn’t exactly anything too new on the makeup scene. However, it is fair to say it hasn’t been around for a little while.

This type of formulation may seem like too much work for some people, especially if they’re new to the makeup scene or live a frantic life.

Taking the extra time to apply this eyeliner may take its toll on people who need to rush in the morning, but when you compare it to a ‘normal’ one you may actually see that there isn’t that much of a difference!

MAIN PERKS

The main perks of this eyeliner are, in my opinion, its modulable pigmentation and its drying time; let’s examine them one by one.

This formulation can be built-up to a proper pitch black shade, or it can just give you a soft wash of color to create a subtle wing; I find this detail to be quite good for people who are just approaching eyeliners but feel intimidated by them (*cough* me a few years back *cough*).

THE WATERCOLOR ASPECT

This Hydra Liner is quite similar to a watercolor formula, with the general rule being the more water you add, the fainter and more translucent the color will turn out to be. Needless to say, the less you wet your brush, the more pigmented the shade will turn out.

DRYING TIME

The drying time is probably the best feature this product offers; in fact, the formula starts drying down as soon as you apply it on the lid.

This detail can be appreciated even more when you realize that you’re actually not losing any extra time compared to your regular liquid eyeliner. It cuts down potential transfer messes as well, which is something I used to struggle quite often with!

LIGHTWEIGHT

Another prominent detail about this Hydra Liner is how lightweight it is.

You probably have experienced taking off your makeup at the end of a long day, and have your eyeliner struggling to come off. This often happens with strongly pigmented eyeshadows as well. Well, you certainly won’t face that problem with this eyeliner.

The pigmentation can be built-up to pitch black, but it will always be easy to remove.

LONG-LASTING

A detail about it that kind of threw me off-guard was how surprisingly long-lasting this formula turned out to be.

Even if you’re working with mostly water, this pigment will cling on your lid and hang in there for the entire day. The only thing that will damage it is, of course, water.

Don’t get me wrong, setting sprays and a light spritz of water won’t do anything to your wing. However, things like tears will potentially destroy it.

I had an experience when my eyeliner didn’t budge throughout an almost 2-hours nap, but was destroyed following quite a few tears following a yawn.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Finally, here we are!

In conclusion, would I recommend the Suva Beauty Hydra Liner Mix Cake? Without question!

This eyeliner is currently my favorite and go-to, and I already plan on re-purchasing a new one. Moreover, I have already purchased one of the eyeliner palettes Suva Beauty has recently launched.

PIGMENTATION

There are so many great details about this product, I just can’t seem to wrap my head around the fact that it isn’t more popular already!

The pigmentation is easily buildable, making it perfect for first-timers and people who simple prefer a more toned-down look. It dries down practically instantly, making it a good choice for people who rush in the morning and need a quick, on-the-go solution.

THE DOWNSIDES

Now, are there any aspects I did not fully enjoy about this product? More or less, to be honest.

The fact that you’re working with a pot eyeliner that is a water-activated formula means you will need to pick a good brush to have the perfect sharp finish. In fact, the brush you use will determine great part of the final result!

This is definitely the most annoying part of the process, but thankfully it is fully up to your control; personally, I like to use an extra fine eyeliner brush by Beauty Bay, but feel free to pick whichever brush grants you the most comfortable application.
