Revolution Skin Blemish & Pore Refining Serum – 10% Niacinamide + 1% Zinc Review

Taking a quick browse through my blog, you’ll soon know that I am a big fan of the British brand Makeup Revolution – or simply, Revolution.
They have recently put out a skincare line called Revolution Skincare, and I have been trying a couple of products out. Among these two, I have been using the 10% Niacinamide + 1% Zinc serum for a couple of weeks.
I was familiar with the formula, since I had already had a very positive experience with the same serum from TheOrdinary. However, I received a sample in my most recent order from Revolution, and I decided to give it a go.

PACKAGING
As most serums and skincare products, the general aesthetics of this packaging is pretty common and almost basic. However, I feel like the vibe it gives off is quite professional. It makes me feel like I know what I am doing when it comes to skincare!
The clear, frosted glass bottle feels nice in your hand, with a nice grip and nice weight to it. You can find the regular white sticker with all the basic infos about the product and formulation.
One detail I deeply appreciated about the general white aesthetics of the serum are the metallic rose gold inserts that can be found both on the sticker and on the dropper applicator.
The dropper applicator is pretty basic yet functional, and picks up a lot more product than TheOrdinary’s one. When it comes to deposit it down on the skin, I feel like it does a pretty good job.
THE FORMULA
This product claims to be a pore refining serum that helps reduce the look of blemishes (and pores). Also, the formulations is perfect for oily, congested and, obviously, blemish-prone skin. Since there are a couple of claims about this serum, I am going to break them down while describing my experience.
PORE REFINING
For me, this is the truest claim! After just a couple of days, I was able to see quite a noticeable difference. The majority of my pores are concentrated on my cheeks, nose and a bit on the center of my forehead. After a couple of days I started seeing my pores shrinking and the texture of my skin was greatly improving.
REDUCING BLEMISHES
In all honesty, this is the bitter part for me. I was really looking forward to it, but it kind of failed me. In fact, I had a few acne residues on both my cheeks, and after two weeks the most part was still very much there. I did not expect them to disappear whatsoever, but I did expect them to fade a lot more.
PERFECT FORMULATION FOR OILY AND CONGESTED SKIN
This is also a true claim! The oil production of my face definitely slowed down while I was using this serum, and it showed a lot even when I was wearing a full face of makeup.
PERFECT FOR BLEMISH-PRONE SKIN
Perfect for blemish-prone skin. Despite it not being my cup of tea when it comes to treating already-existing blemishes, I definitely saw that it helped controlling my breakouts while I was on my period. I usually get a lot of pimples in this period, but this product was a great help!
A QUICK COMPARISON + POINTS IN COMMON
As I mentioned before, I already had a good experience with the same formula but of a different brand: TheOrdinary. I couldn’t help but notice a few differences not only in performance, but also the consistency of both products.
I find the serum from Revolution to be a bit thicker and have an almost gel-like consistency. The formula doesn’t run down your skin as fast, which is something I appreciate. TheOrdinary’s formulation, on the other hand, feels a lot more liquid and almost water-y on the skin.
Moving on to the performance, I must say I like both products for different reasons. Even if I said I did not enjoy the fact that I had quite the visible acne scars, I did appreciate how the Revolution’s product worked on my pores. Also, it controlled my period breakouts quite well. TheOrdinary product worked in the opposite fashion for me: it controlled and faded my breakouts quickly and efficiently, but it took it a bit longer to work on my pores.
When it comes to points in common, these two have also quite a few!
The bottles are pretty similar – which happens frequently in skincare – but so are the serums. They are both clear and completely transparent, and either of them has a smell.
Performance-wise, both of them absorb quickly and leave a tacky finish behind, perfect for moisturizing or adding more serums.
FINAL THOUGHTS
As always, here we are! At the end of the day, would I recommend the 10% Niacinamide + 1% Zinc serum by Revolution Skincare? I would, but under determinate circumstances.
The product in itself worked well and, for the price, I can’t really be mad at it. I think that the bittersweet experience was caused by me expecting something different out of it.
It worked wonderfully when it came to bettering my overall skin texture, shrinking my pores and controlling my breakouts. On the other hand, it didn’t really do much to fade my old scars. I still think it’s a very good product, but I think you should know that that particular aspect was a no from me.
Also, before I leave you with more Revolution and Revolution Skincare reviews, I would like to point something very important out. Makeup and skincare are two very personal experiences, meaning that if something works for me it may not do the same for you. Nothing will make me happier to hear that you had a great experience with this product, but that doesn’t mean that will happen with me too.
