Hey, pretty people!

I have just recently decided to indulge in my passion for fashion and create a new ‘column’ in my blog. The Fashion Journal.

This section will be inspired by the most famous designers. Moreover, it will feature a few pages of my own fashion journal. I am incredibly excited to kick off this series, and hope you will be able to enjoy it as well.

Every post will feature a particular brand; there will be an analysis of the outfits and pieces, as well as the general aesthetic of it. We are going to talk about colors and cuts, as well as how to replicate outfits. Also, there will be a particular attention to the key items.

For this first article, I wanted to focus on one of my favorite designes of all time: Giorgio Armani.

As an Italian, I believe that all of us love King Giorgio. His class and style have truly proven to be timeless, and he has become an icon of the Italian style. Also, he is one of the most appreciated designers ever.

How To Copy Giorgio Armani's Aesthetic and Outfits | The Fashion JournalThis article is going to be divided into five chapters: The Cut, The Outfits, The Colors and Key Items & Tips.

In case you were wondering, this post isn’t going to feature specific terminology or technicalities. I apologize to people who actually know this, and I sincerely hope it won’t offend you. The meaning of this post is to replicate the general aesthetic and outfits. Not to dive deep into a fashion designs course.

If you do have tips to make this series more enjoyable, I would really appreciate you writing them down in the comments!

Alright, after this lengthy introduction it’s finally time to get down to business and find out how to copy Giorgio Armani’s Aesthetic and Outfits.

Let’s go!

DISCLAIMER: All of the pictures of the outfits belong to Giorgio Armani and the rightful owners.

THE CUT

As you can see, this is one of the simpler cuts in Armani’s collection

Even if Giorgio Armani has been around for quite some time and has experimented between different items, I believe it is safe to say that the general feel of it is a more low-key one – from cut to colors.

Since we’re talking about a high-end brand, you have to expect a more elegant touch. That is certainly true, but the ‘wild card’ here can be how comfortable this clothing items seem to be. In fact, everything seems to fall loosely on the body. Not exactly too big, but not a perfect fit either.

We are going to touch more about this detail later when talking about outfits, but we can surely say that the Armani cut is something entirely special. It is meant to convey a look that seems put together and elegant; however, it still is comfortable and easy to wear.

Another detail I deem important about the cut is how simple it looks.

I personally think that the general belief with designer brands is that they look more extra, more elaborated and colorful. Whereas here, we have one of the most influencial brands in the world, making items that may even look minimalistic.

Once again, I find this detail to furtherly enrich the feel of the items, making them look even more elegant and high-end. I do believe it is a personal point of view, so I wouldn’t expect everybody to agree.

THE OUTFITS

This has got to be one of my absolute favorite outfits by Armani

I am sure many of you are going to be slightly doubtful about this category. I mean, it’s not like a brand will settle on creating only one item and ditch all the others, right?

That is certainly true. Armani has created many different clothing pieces throughout the years, but I do believe that when we are looking at outfits we will detect a pattern fairly quickly.

A COMPARISON WITH CHANEL

The brand seems to prefer blazers, shirts and baggy pants as opposed to most other labels – especially when talking about the ‘Woman’ section.

Now, I am definitely one to dislike labeling clothes for men and women. I believe everybody should be free to wear whatever they want to. However, we must refer back to the history of fashion in this case.

How To Copy Giorgio Armani's Aesthetic and Outfits | The Fashion JournalCoco Chanel made history because of her unconventional and scandalous (at the time) choices, especially having women wear pants. Similarly, Giorgio Armani offered women suits that were catered to their needs by combining elegance, class and comfort. Women suits weren’t exactly too popular in the past, but they are becoming more and more in demand these days.

COMMON PAIRING

The most ‘common’ pairing to find among the outfits offered by Giorgio Armani is, of course, blazer + pants. The shirt isn’t a must, which adds a bit of uniqueness and ‘spice’ to the general vibe.

I feel like this pairing becomes more interesting than it generally would be thanks to the different fits provided by the two pieces.

In fact, while the pants are more flowy and comfortable, the blazer is a perfect fit and hugs the body well. The slight contrast provided may not seem that innovative to you, but it is one of the most interesting aspects of the outfit for me.

THE COLORS

Like I mentioned before, I genuinely believe that when we’re talking about high-end designers we tend to associate them with bright colors and fun outfits.

I especially love this image because it shows how the same colors can be paired to convey two completely different outfits

I don’t know about you of course, but the first thing I think about when the name ‘Versace’ comes up is that beautiful green dress Jennifer Lopez wore a while back. Both its original version and the ‘re-vamped’ one, to be exact. When it comes to Giorgio Armani, on the other hand, I have a different outlook.

Armani’s colors seem to be generally more toned down than the average brand, with the most prominent being black, white and grey. Solid colors are the most common choice for the brand, mostly soft ones though.

THE POPS

However, Armani’s world isn’t all black and white and grey. There are also cute and interesting pops of color here and there, and the most iconic choice for them is a classic true red.

This is the hue that also tends to pop up even in Armani’s beauty line, especially on their liquid lipsticks’ caps.

Moreover, it is the color chosen for their perfume’s ‘‘ commercial starring Cate Blanchett. I feel like this is one of the shades that has distinguished the brand the most throughout the years, and also one that looks good on everybody!

This color is quite hard to forget, so I definitely think it was a smart solution to pick it. It will make you think of Giorgio Armani instantly, and if you were to wear it people would have a hard time forgetting you.

THE PRINTS

I believe that Armani has an interesting approach to prints, especially when compared to most high-end brands; actually, their approach is interesting no matter what brand you compare them with.

Prints and writings are more and more popular in today’s fashion choices, and everything seems to be loud and somewhat ‘in-your-face’. When it comes to Giorgio Armani, however, we have a much more conservative approach.

The prints are somewhat rarely used, and we can almost always see the same, classic ones; checkered ones are a top choice, but there are also floral and more colorful and fun ones around – they’re just not too common.

In my opinion, this happens because Armani is designed to appeal to an older audience which wouldn’t exactly appreciate the large use of prints. They would rather have something elegant and low-key to wear, hence why the scarcity of those. I don’t mean that prints are childish at all, I would just assume they would appeal to a younger audience.

10 KEY ITEMS & TIPS

Lastly, let’s talk about how to actually replicate Giorgio Armani’s aesthetic and outfits; which items should you invest in? Which colors and cuts should be on your radar?

There is also going to be a bullet-point summary at the end to make everything neat and organized, don’t worry.

How To Copy Giorgio Armani's Aesthetic and Outfits | The Fashion JournalWhen it comes to colors, I would suggest you to pick black and white ones, and possibly beige; they tend to be considered more elegant, and also convey a feeling of power and class.

In case you weren’t all about that low-key life, I would recommend going for toned down hues that aren’t too eye-catching. On the other hand, if you’re all about those pops of color, you should definitely consider a bright red.

It is scientifically proven that red is the color to go for if you aim at being unforgettable and make an impact. I would refer you to this incredibly interesting article to go more in-depth about it.

How To Copy Giorgio Armani's Aesthetic and Outfits | The Fashion JournalSpeaking about items, your best choices would be fitted shirts and blazers, and more comfortable and flowy pants.

If you were aiming at re-creating Armani’s iconic outfits, you would really want to copy the contrast between a fitted upper clothing and a more flowy bottom. However, you don’t really want the contrast to be too evident. You don’t necessarily need to go one size up, since looking for a different cut of pants could fix it easily.

There are pants that are naturally slightly bigger than your ‘regular’ size, and that would be the best way to go. Also, you can apply this same logic for skirts – just pick longer ones to mimick the perfect Armani look.

10 KEY ITEMS YOU SHOULD OWN

  • Black blazer
  • Red blazer
  • Black pants
  • Beige pants
  • White shirt
  • White pants
  • Long, flowy black skirt
  • Camel coat
  • Black coat
  • Flowy dresses (better if longer ones)

You certainly don’t need to stick to this list; these are just basic items that will allow you to create a multitude of looks without breaking the bank.

You can find all of these items in almost every single clothing store, and most of them aren’t all that expensive since they are considered ‘basic’ ones. Moreover, with all of these pictures you definitely have a lot of style inspo!
