Dupe Alert: Anastasia Beverly Hills “Sepia” vs NYX Lingerie “Honeymoon”

Strong of their brow products and eyeshadow palettes, Anastasia Beverly Hills keep pumping out products that have makeup lovers weak in their knees. From blinding highlighters to blushes, there’s really no limit to their fantasy.

I have always had a great appreciation for lip products in general, and there was a color from ABH that quickly caught my eye when browsing through their website: ‘Sepia’.

The shade looked stunning and so different from every other already present in my makeup collection, but I did not want to invest that much just yet, especially since I would have had to pay for both the shipping and some custom fees. Therefore, I immediately started looking for a cheaper knock-off, and found a pretty great contestant in one of my favorite stores: NYX.

The NYX Lingerie shade “Honeymoon” looked pretty similar to the ABH I fell in love with, but is it actually a dupe for it?

Let’s find out!

PACKAGING

The small details really make a huge difference when it comes to recurring packagings – like liquid lipsticks’, for example.

sepiaSepia’s packaging is a clear plastic bottle stained with the lip color; this will allow you to take a peek at the shade inside, but not have a real reference of how much product you have left.

The cap is silver and the little engraving gold, while the writing on the actual bottle is black. I must say, this packaging definitely looks more luxurious than NYX’s one.

The wand is completely flat, similarly to Honeymoon’s, making it kind of hard to regulate the amount of product that goes onto your lips. I don’t miss the “traditional” shape that much, other than this fact.

Also, the wand helps providing a better coverage.

In contrast to Sepia’s, Honeymoon’s general color theme is black. Even though I don’t mind too much, I feel like it kind of makes the overall look a little flat, especially because all the general specifics of the product are printed on it.

Just like Sepia’s, Honeymoon’s bottle is stained with the lip color and the applicator is completely flat.

Finally, a quick touch on the formula: both articles are marketed as ‘liquid lipsticks’, but I feel NYX’s one to have a more unique formula. For instance, it feels a lot creamier when first applied, and dries down slowly but very comfortably.

PRODUCT FORMULATION

Despite presenting different formulations, the two liquid lipsticks share the following ingredients:

  • Isododecane
  • Disteardimonium Hectorite
  • Phenoxyethanol

  • Red 6 (Ci 15850)
  • Red 7 Lake (Ci 15850)
  • Blue 1 Lake (Ci 42090)

SWATCHES

These pics are not mine!

As you can see, the lightning does make the products look different, but if you take a look at this other swatches you can clearly see all the similarities!

I decided to add a couple more swatches just to show you guys how different the color can look in different lightning, and then prove my point with this last picture.

FINAL THOUGHTS

In conclusion, do I believe Honeymoon to be a dupe for Sepia? Absolutely.

The formula may be slightly different, but the color payoff and strength are quite impressive for a drugstore price.

Like always, I encourage you to buy whichever product you believe to be worth of your money and love!
