Hey, pretty people!

We have already talked about the infinite, timeless elegance of Chanel’s Slingback shoes in this post. Before proceeding here, I would recommend you check it out – just to have some context (don’t worry, it’s a super short post!).

These shoes are the ultimate pinnacle of elegance, and have come a long way since their very first version created in 1957.

In fact, if their original version only came in beige and black, you can now find them in a plethora of colors, materials and, most interestingly, heel variations!

For this upcycling process, you’re only going to need 3 things – and you most definitely already own them!

It’s a simple diy fashion project you can do in a short amount of time, and it would be much more fun to do on a date with your friends.

So, are you ready to find out how to make your very own DIY Chanel Slingback shoes dupe?

Let’s get started!

YOU’LL NEED

  • A pair of solid colored shoes you like, possibly hard leather
  • An acrylic paint or nail polish of choice
  • A clear nail polish
  • Some tape
  • A cotton bud
  • Some nail polish remover

SOME CLARIFICATIONS – THE SHOES

The choice of shoes for the project should be based on thing only: your comfort.

Since Slingback shoes come in multiple different variations, the most popular ones being flats or pumps. As long as they’re hard, shiny leather (synthetic, faux leather works perfectly for this), you’re good to go.

Of course, pick a super cheap pair to experiement on!

SOME CLARIFICATIONS – THE DYE

You can absolutely use fabric dye for this project, but in my experience nail polish and acrylic paint work just as well – and they’re quite cheaper as well.

Dollar store products will work just fine for this DIY Chanel Slingback dupe. You’ll quite a bit of product for this, so you definitely don’t want to use your favorite nail polish!

SOME CLARIFICATIONS – THE COLORS

Truthfully, you have full creative liberty when it comes to picking the colors of this project.

The original Slingback was a beige shoe with black details; you can follow this patter, or make a completely different and contrasting color pairing. Get creative with it!

SOME CLARIFICATIONS – THE CLEAR NAIL POLISH

This is a non-negotiable part of the project. It’s something you don’t want to skip, even if it’ll make the whole process a bit lengthier.

You can pick a matte version as well, if you’re not feeling the clear one. It’ll create a super interesting contrast with the leather’s shine!

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE TAPE

This is another step you really don’t want to skip.

Applying some tape to map out the area you want to cover will ensure you get a neat finish, one you can easily clean up with a cotton bud and some nail polish remover.

Alright, let’s get crafting (let’s get upcycling?)!

Firstly, map out the area you want to cover with paint using some tape.

You want to cover only the point of the shoes, so be mindful of that. Constantly compare the shoes to make sure the area is even on both, and they’re both the same size.

Once you’re happy with that, apply a first coat of the acrylic paint/nail polish you have previously selected. Even though you have applied the tape, make sure to be extra careful while painting.

As soon as your first coat has dried, apply a second one. You might need more coats, and I encourage you to keep going until you have reached a finish you’re satisfied with. Just make sure to let the coats dry!

Now that you’re happy with the way your shoes look, remove the paint and fix possible mishaps with the cotton bud soaked into the nail polish remover. This will make sure your finished product has super neat edges, and actually looks like the real deal.

Lastly, use your clear nail polish on top of it, and let dry.

And your DIY Chanel Slingback Shoes dupe is all done!
