Dupe Alert: Kylie Cosmetics “Moon” vs NYX “Brooklyn Thorn”
Kylie Cosmetics has been on the beauty scene for a couple of years now, constantly releasing new products that have fans of young Kylie weak in their knees.
Even with a fairly wide selection, we can all agree that the most noteworthy is (and probably always will be) her Lip Kit. Including a liquid lipstick and a cream lip liner, Kylie Cosmetics’ Lip Kits retail for 29$ and are many people favorites because of a smooth, comfortably wearable formula.
Now that fall is almost upon us, I figured that it would be fitting to put a fall-ish shade to the dupe test, and opted for the beautiful “Moon”. While we all stan for a good, long lasting formula, it is also worth mentioning that the price isn’t really drugstore; can we find a cheaper alternative?
“Brooklyn Thorn” from NYX does look quite promising, but is it actually a dupe for the more expensive alternative?

PACKAGING
Even though I have already covered this in my Koko K vs Tea&Cookies Dupe Alert (check it out here!), I will spend a couple of words here as well.
Even if Kylie does have special packagings for special occasions, much like Jeffree Star, this is not the case.
Firstly, Moon’s bottle is clear hard plastic that allows us to see the product inside, and has the company’s and product’s name stamped in black on it, along with a cool dripping design on top.
I really like how the design and cap seem to melt together, I have to admit, but I am not a big fan of the font used for Kylie’s name.
Brooklyn Thorn’s packaging, on the other hand, is still hard plastic, but the bottle is colored this time; I find this to be both a blessing and a curse, frankly. On one hand, I feel like it gives the over-all feeling of something that is really clean and pulled together; on the other hand it is quite difficult to see how much lipstick you have left.
Similarly to Moon, the product’s and brand’s name are stamped in black.
Lastly, a quick touch on the applicators.
Moon’s one is your regular liquid lipstick wand, with a little curvature that follows your lips perfectly, while Brooklyn Thorn’s one is much longer but easily to maneuver.
PRODUCT FORMULATION
As I previously said in multiple Dupe Alerts (they will all be linked at the end of this post, in case you are interested!), it is fair to say that we are comparing two complete opposite formulas.
The Liquid Suedes do dry down to a semi–matte finish, but it requires a little bit more time. Also, since they are actually cream lipsticks in liquid form they will sit a lot nicer on your lips and will be a lot more comfortable.
Both products are cruelty–free and share the following ingredients:

FINAL THOUGHTS
In conclusion, to I believe Brooklyn Thorn to be a dupe for Moon? Yes, I do believe so.
You have to keep in mind that we are comparing two extremely different formulations here, so you won’t have the same performances from both products.
I own a couple of Kylie’s liquid lipsticks, and have to say that they really give you a long-lasting experience without much dryness. I also own a few Liquid Suedes, and was really impressed by their longevity as well!
Lastly, I encourage you to go for whichever product you prefer or whichever brand you want to support. It is entirely up to you.
