Hey, pretty people!

As I promised a while back, I am giving DIY hair care a little bit more attention, so here I am with a new series of DIYs. If last time it was all about masks, this time around we are going to focus on something a little more day-to-day: shampoos.

You’re probably thinking that making a DIY shampoo is a long and difficult process that probably requires weird ingredients, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

In fact, you probably already have all the ingredients you need to make this DIY honey shampoo in your kitchen!

Curious to find out what they are?

Let’s get started!

YOU’LL NEED:

  • A container of your choice (try recycling an empty shampoo bottle!)
  • 1/4 cup of Distilled Water
  • 1 Tablespoon of Honey
  • 1 cup of Castille Soap
  • 1-2 tabs of Vitamin E oil (optional)

Before jumping into the crafting process, let’s talk a little bit about honey’s benefits for your hair.

For starters, honey is essential when it comes to deep conditioning, which comes in handy for drier hair types; also, it’s a powerful hair softener. Moreover, this natural ingredient can also promote your hair growth and prevent split ends.

Lastly, it’s also a trusty ally when it comes to minimize frizz!

Ok, now it’s finally time to craft our DIY Honey shampoo.

I don’t think there’s a specific order of mixing things together, so I’ll just illustrate how I did it. Feel free to proceede in a different way, if that’s what you think is right.

Firstly, I wanted to make sure that the honey was going to completely melt into the soap; to do that, I microwaved it in a bowl at small intervals, until it was completely liquid. I then mixed the two thicker liquids together as well as I could.

If you have Vitamin E oil tabs laying around, this may be the perfect time to throw them into the mix. Adding this ingredient will not only elongate the life of your shampoo, but also allow you to store it directly in your bathroom rather than your fridge.

As soon as your mixture has reached a perfectly liquid, smooth and thick consistency, it’s time to add the water.

Mix everything well, pour it into your container and your DIY honey shampoo is ready to use!
