Chrome nails are slowly but surely taking over the nail art world. I have been seeing them in multiple colors all over my TikTok fyp and Instagram feed, and I came to a weird realization.
I have never really saw them on ‘regular’ nails, it’s always press-ons, gel or acrylics. Moreover, I always see everyone use either professional products to achieve them, or multiple nail polishes.
But what if you don’t really wanna spend any money on them? That’s where I come in!
This is your complete guide on achieving chrome nails at home, without buying any additional products.
No, you don’t need press-ons, gel or acrylic nail polish if you don’t want to. Although you are more than welcome to use those products if you feel comfortable to, they’re not required here.
So, are you ready to find out how to achieve chrome nails at home?

I know that seems like a lot of products, which is why we’re going to analyze them better before we kick off.
Before I leave you, however, allow me to direct you to this guide on how to take better care of your nails and make your manicure last.
You might feel confused at the clear or white base, so allow me to elaborate on that.
Usually, and most commonly, you’ll find clear nail polish to use as base. That’s all well and good, but if you’re using a light color (like pastels), a white base will help you make the shade pop more.
As long as you pick one solid color, you’re good to go. It doesn’t really matter which color it is.
As you probably have guessed by now, the highlighter is your actual chrome element.
You can pick one that’s close to your nail polish, or even a contrasting one. Let your creativity take over!
Of course, you’re going to start off with clean, dry nails, and apply your clear or white base on them.
Once it’s dry, apply 1-2 coats of your nail polish to create your colored base. If you need more than that to have a perfectly consistent color, do so.
When your polish is completely dry, take your sponge applicator and pick up a good amount of your highlighter. Then, spread it evenly on your nails. Use a fluffy brush to get rid of the excess.
Lastly, apply your clear top coat and let dry.
And there you have your DIY Chrome Nails at home!
